Long Term Facility Plan

Nov 2007 updates

The Board is considering an exciting and unique long-term facility plan to help ensure successful growth of the school and our educational programs while meeting the demand of our current Parker families, and also following through on the original commitment to the Highlands Ranch community to bring NSA to this area.

Two Campus Proposal

The Board plans to submit a proposal in June 2008 to the Douglas County Board of Education for a second campus, serving grades K-8. This would enable the school to keep its current facility in Parker (East campus), and open a second facility in Highlands Ranch (West campus). This involves extensive research as we look at growth strategies, governance models, leadership development, maintaining school culture, and the organizational capacity of this option.

East Campus (Parker) Facility Plan

As the Board considers permanently locating its East campus in the current Parker facility, it has retained the services of Roche Construction to assist in the evaluation and planning process of upgrading this facility. The school's Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) and Roche Construction are currently researching and developing a multi-year strategy to upgrade the East campus which includes permanent walls, bathroom upgrades, ADA access, playground improvements and more.

Proposed West Campus Facility Plan

The Board's vision for a second campus includes an educational program, administrative structure and culture that mirror the current East campus. The Board is currently working on the following projects:

SchoolCenter Picture  The Board has developed a charter application for its proposed West Campus and plans to submit this application to the Douglas County Board of Education in June 2008. A decision by the Douglas County Board of Education is anticipated by August 2008.

SchoolCenter Picture  The Board has developed a marketing plan to raise awareness of its West campus proposal, and hosted several informational meetings in Highlands Ranch in September 2007. The Board is currently accepting Intent to Enroll forms for any family interested in attending the West campus.

SchoolCenter Picture  A location has not been identified for the NSA West campus facility, however the Board is targeting the area west of I-25, specifically Highlands Ranch. The Board is currently working with a real estate broker on available land in this area.

SchoolCenter Picture The Board also plans to submit a proposal to Douglas County Board of Education regarding available district properties that may be suitable for the school's West campus. This presentation to the Board of Education will be scheduled for December 4th.

Support the NSA Board During Upcoming District Meetings

It's imperative that the Douglas County School Board see that we are united in our efforts to open a second campus and add grades 7 and 8.  We cannot do this without the support of our NSA families.  Please make the time to attend upcoming NSA and District board meetings to show your support of schools of choice:
