In the words of the Godfather, Don Corleone, "Someday - and that day may never come - I'll call upon you to do a service for me." The day has come - I need a favor from every family at NSA.  The day is on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. at the Douglas County School Board Meeting.  Why?  Because we are going to make them an offer they can't refuse.  We are talking a new second facility - NSA K-8 West Campus.  We are going to the mat over this.

This is a critical meeting for both the future of the Parker as well as the Highlands Ranch families.  It is really the future of NSA that will affect every student.  If we can get land in Highlands Ranch, we can build our second school, a K-8 facility.  If that happens, our present Parker school will become even a better place to be.  The enrollment will be reduced.  At Parker, we will have two classes of every grade level K-6.  This will allow us to enlarge classrooms, put up permanent walls, carpet the entire school, upgrade the playground, and consider popping out the back wall for a bit more room down the road to accommodate a Science lab. For Highlands it means a sister school, a K-8 facility of two classes of each grade level K-6 and a 7th and 8th middle school.  And while it will be lottery, it will allow some families to consider bussing 7th and 8th Parker students to this facility.

I must tell you that I started to have some doubts about this second school.  It seems a large undertaking with many hurdles to jump.  But last week I listened to our Board President, Jennifer Larson, speak to the Douglas County Board.  I listen to the work that has already been done, the dream that has created this school, and the conviction in her voice.  I left convinced - we will have a second school in Highlands Ranch.

But this is not just a Board effort.  It will take ALL of us to show, in a positive way, we want to move this vision of becoming a World Class School forward into reality by 2009.  I ask you to please come and simply show your support for the betterment of NSA.

See you December 4, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. at the Douglas County School District Administrative Center located at 620 Wilcox St. Castle Rock, CO 80104

Now remember, Mrs. Corleone never asks a second favor once she's refused the first, understood?

Donna Corleone,

The Godmother
